Would love to venture into taking posed pictures of people outdoors. Nature and people thing. Anyways... I have found some sites I have been posting my pictures on, has anyone else found any good sites to post your pictures, get feedback and that sort of stuff?

TrekEarth - http://www.trekearth.com - The type of pictures you would find in a travel brochure.
TrekNature - http://www.treknature.com - All things natural. They are a bit picky here, no domestic animals or plants.
TrekLens - http://www.treklens.com - focuses on camera work, post work and photoshop tweaks.

All three of these sites are great. Feel free to look up my pictures on there. My user name is "lawentzel" just search it. I can't wait to see what other sites people have found to help better their photography skills.

We're looking for the kind of stuff we'll think is so amazing we'll want to pass on to our friends, family, office-mates, and nearby impressionable infants. And then we'll award selected entries with things like cash, shirts, syrup, and other crazy prize stuffs.

And luckily this festival is free to submit to. No more pesky registration fees when all you have to do is have access to the Internet and be able to press an upload button. But perhaps the best part of registering for Zannel Fest, in addition to prizes, is that you’ll also be (if you want!) one of the very first users of an almost launched content sharing network that encompasses mobile phones, the Internet, and possibly a device that hasn't been invented yet, like the PK-109 Video Helmet.

Participants are invited to submit original works in two categories - pictures or videos. Just make it fun, cool, sweet, or [insert your favorite superlative HERE].

I went today to a fair and I wanted to take photos of a lot of people - it's amazing how much emotion one can capture if he/she looks carefully...

The problem is that I felt it's inappropriate to take those photos without asking for permissions... In 99% of the cases, the shots are candid, so one would have to take it and then go ask if it's ok to keep it...

My question is: what is the best way of taking those photos without offending anybody? Or, is it okay to just take them since it's in a public place after all? About posting them online?

I feel I need permission for all of that - but I might be wrong since I'm really new to photography...

Well I've decided to go ahead and make take the leap of faith and buy my own gear. Before I was using the gear at a place I had access to but have since moved. So now I'm looking to buy my own. I don't want to take that leap without doing at least a little bit of looking around and talking to a few people to get their opinions since there's so much out there to choose from.

I'd like to find a decent enlarger and basic set up for under $500 or so but I'd also like something that's going to last me for a while and give me decent results while leaving me some room to grow. Anyone have any suggestions? I've looked at B&H's stuff and a few others.

The place I was using had enlargers with condenser heads (don't remember the brand) so I'm somewhat familiar with them but I've also seen variable contrast (VC) head too. Which is best? (I'm sure that's like asking which camera body is best but I thought I'd ask for input.)

Right now I'm really only looking to do B&W and doubt that I'll be moving into color at all.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am going to travel from Southern Argentina back to the United States. I am a writer and am going to scribble out this beast of an experience in spiral bound notebooks and these writings will later be bound into a book. Along with the book, I have decided to photograph the trip. My idea being to pair these two related mediums together for a more complete experience.

Now I am trying to figure out what camera(s) to take and I am having some trouble. Clearly, a digital SLR, perhaps the Canon Rebel, would be a front-runner as far as wanting to get the best images out of every snap. But I am worried about using it in crowded places, about it getting stolen (I have gotten robbed twice already down in South America), and about how easy it will be to carry with me on such a long and rigerous trip. A digital Elph, or some oher pocket-cam, is great as far as ease of transport and keeping it hidden, but I worry about the lack of manual controls with a point and shoot.

There are weights and factors on all sides and each day I lean to a new side. The truth is that although I have traveled extensively, I have never undertaken a trip like this.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated?

Note: these photographs are going to be shown in galleries. I am thinking 11 x 17's.

Hello and well met, fellow photography lovers. *smile* I thought i'd stop in and introduce myself, if no one minds.

I am Saskya (ahdiahn on lj) - a 27 year old self taught photographer who has been taking photos for about a year now. I use a digital Olympus Camedia UltraZoom C2100 which is lacking in megapixels but is definately made up for in the zoom. I prefer black and white as a medium, and my usual subjects for my photographs are all things nature and the occasional self-portrait. (I need to know more people who are willing to sit in front of the camera!)

I am looking forward to seeing how this place is set up and how we all interact with one another. I hope you are all well and this note finds you in good spirits.
